Most individuals struggling with substance use disorder require withdrawal management before starting any rehabilitation therapeutic treatment. For instance, individuals with severe alcohol use disorders, anxiolytic substance use disorders (particularly abuse of benzodiazepines or barbiturates), polysubstance use disorders, and opiate use disorders (e.g., heroin, morphine, etc.) are very likely to develop intense withdrawal symptoms once they discontinue drug use. In the case of withdrawal from alcohol, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and certain other classes of drugs, there is a potential that the individual will experience seizures during the withdrawal process, and there is a potential that some seizures can have serious and even fatal consequences. Although no one can predict who will develop seizures and who will not, physician-supervised withdrawal management, or medical detox, is recommended for all those struggling with addiction to these drugs.
At Florida Center for Recovery (FCR) withdrawal management is provided by our experienced medical and clinical team who is available 24 hours a day to make the detox process as safe and comfortable as possible. Upon admission, each client is given a thorough medical exam and nursing assessment. Clients follow individualized withdrawal management protocols that are carefully monitored and tailored to address detox symptoms. During this process, clients are engaged in biofeedback sessions at our Serenity Lounge practicing deep-breathing and learning relaxation techniques to help with stress, restlessness and anxiety. When using these techniques, clients are able to establish a coherence baseline and are able to take charge of their emotional reactions. Slowing down the stressful vibration helps recovering individuals re-establish the cooperation and balance between the body, mind and emotions.
Beyond Medical Detox
After medical detox, FCR’s clients receive traditional counseling, holistic and alternative therapies, where they are educated about the disease of addiction and learn how to identify and understand the issues that may have caused their addiction. Therapeutic treatment is offered in private and in a group setting and often involves family members and loved ones when recommended by the client’s primary therapist.
